This Thursday, May 29, the Vilnius Spring Festival invites audiences to this year’s closing concert, where two musical forces – jazz and classical music – will meet on one stage. In a project created especially for the festival, one of Lithuania’s most prominent jazz artists, Dainius Pulauskas, will perform together with the Vilnius City Municipal Šv. Kristoforo kamerinis orkestras.
The evening will feature the premiere of a new composition by Dainius Pulauskas, blending the improvisational freedom of jazz with the structure of classical music. On Thursday night, at the National Gallery of Art, the works will be performed by the Dainius Pulauskas Trio – Dainius Pulauskas (keyboards), double bassist Arman Isojan, and percussion virtuoso Domantas Razmus. They will be joined by trumpeter Valerijus Ramoška and the St. Christopher Chamber Orchestra, conducted by Modestas Barkauskas.
“Pianist Dainius Pulauskas is undoubtedly one of the most interesting European fusion jazz composers,” wrote the international portal All About Jazz about the musician. And rightly so – Pulauskas not only represents Lithuanian jazz on the world stage but constantly seeks new connections between genres, scenes, and sonic worlds.
“This concert is yet another large-scale project bringing together musicians from different genres. I have previously composed and performed major works for jazz ensemble and symphony orchestra, wind orchestra, string quartet, big band, and more. For this concert, we have created a special programme, and this will be its premiere. It is a joint project of two ensembles – a synthesis of a jazz group and a classical orchestra,” says Dainius Pulauskas.
This concert is more than just the closing of the Vilnius Spring Festival. It is a musical event of a kind rarely encountered in our cultural everyday life. The project unites two powerful ensembles with distinct musical voices and promises the audience an extraordinary experience – a celebration of sound where jazz is allowed to breathe through the vibrations of strings, and the orchestra improvises within a new rhythmic pulse.
The final chord of this year’s Vilnius Spring Festival will sound this Thursday, May 29, at the National Gallery of Art.
