On Thursday evening, one of the most anticipated concerts of this year’s Vilnius Spring Festival took place at the National Gallery of Art — the world-renowned Danish trio Dreamers’ Circus performed in Lithuania for the very first time. Often described as ambassadors of contemporary Nordic music, the musicians invited the audience on a hypnotic musical journey where traditional folk, improvisation, contemporary musical language, and sincerity merged into one captivating experience.

The festival audience gave a particularly warm welcome to trio members Nikolaj Busk, Rune Tonsgaard Sørensen, and Ale Carr, whose music has resonated for more than a decade on major stages across Europe, North America, and Japan.

“It was one of those evenings when music seemed to erase boundaries — between genres, countries, the stage, and the audience. It is precisely for encounters like this that the idea of Vilnius Spring Festival was born,” said festival director Nerijus Masevičius after the concert.

The programme featured works from different stages of Dreamers’ Circus’ creative journey, including music from their latest album Handed On, which reflects on musical heritage, transmission, and constant renewal. Throughout the evening, listeners experienced the trio’s distinctive artistic signature — precise musicianship, subtle sensitivity, and spontaneous energy that has become an inseparable part of their live performances.

In the music of Dreamers’ Circus, folk is not treated as a museum relic — it is alive, breathing, and constantly evolving. During this concert, traditional Nordic melodies sounded contemporary and unexpected, while the audience’s reactions once again confirmed that this kind of music speaks a universal language.

Now in its third edition, Vilnius Spring Festival continues its programme at the National Gallery of Art. On May 21, the festival stage will welcome legendary composer Laimis Vilkončius with the programme If We Were to Return, joined by the St. Christopher Chamber Orchestra and the choir Jauna Muzika. The festival will conclude on May 28 with the world-famous Swedish vocal quartet Ringmasters.
