“If We Were to Return” is a title that brings together music from different periods into a single inner dramaturgy. This is neither an anniversary concert nor a retrospective – it is a conscious artistic choice, allowing the programme to be shaped freely and the works to be revisited as living parts of a creative journey.
As composer Laimis Vilkončius explains: “The concert is not dedicated to any anniversary. It is a deliberate decision – a desire to shape the programme freely and to perform with the finest ensembles of the city of Vilnius, whose artistic flexibility allows me to reveal the full spectrum of my creative voice.”
The programme will feature some of the most beautiful songs composed by Vilkončius during different periods of his career – a return to the genre where his creative path first began. The musical arc of the evening will range from lyrical intimacy to dramatic intensity, inviting the audience to experience the evolution of his work as a living, breathing process.
The composer’s connection to Vilnius is an inseparable part of his artistic identity, making this concert a natural part of the Vilnius Spring Festival programme – a meeting between Vilnius-based ensembles and a Vilnius creator. The artistic flexibility and openness of the performers are essential for this repertoire.
On stage, Laimis Vilkončius (vocals, keyboards) will perform alongside a choir and the Šv. Kristoforo kamerinis orkestras, conducted by Modestas Barkauskas. The concert will be hosted by the composer himself, inviting the audience into a musical journey that is at once personal and universal.
